Calvaria from new-born rats were incubated with 14C-acetate in Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate or phosphate buffer of varying pH to study lipid synthesis. Lipid radioactivity was always greater in bones incubated in phosphate buffer. No optimum pH value was observed between pH 6.5 and 7.5.
