Tetracycline injected intravenously in rats is immediately concentrated in the parotid and sublingual glands. By use of fluorescence microscopy, the antibiotic can be visualized in acinar and duct cells, and in duct lumens. The fluorophore is largely eliminated from the glands within 24 hours.
