Alloxan-induced diabetes in immature rats retarded body growth and growth of salivary and endocrine glands. In mature rats, atrophic changes in salivary glands and weight loss resulted. In proportion to dose levels, insulin treatments prevented the retardation of body growth and growth of salivary and endocrine glands in immature diabetic rats and prevented the defective changes of salivary glands and body weight loss in mature diabetic rats.
