The submicroscopic structure of the calciotraumatic response to tetracycline was studied in the dentin, mandible, and femur of 14 young rats. In the dentin, the shape of the tubules became irregular, and the intertubular substance appeared spongy. Incomplete mineralization occurred within the growth zones of the mandible and femur. The severity of the response depended on the quantity of tetracycline bound in the calcifying tissue.
