The mandibular right first molar regions of 43 four-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats were traumatized by needle penetration. Three rats were killed immediately and the remainder, after 36 days. Gross and histologic examination revealed enamel hypoplasia, impacted, ankylosed first molars, and an odontoma. A theoretical basis for the findings is suggested.
