Comparisons were made of the achievement motivation levels of British, Australian, and American immigrants in New Zealand with their occupational counterparts in their native countries. Results, obtained through use of a nonprojective measure, indicated that immigrant entrepreneurs and educators did not differ in need for achievement from those in similar jobs in their respective homelands. Immigrant middle managers recorded significantly lower n Ach than their native comparison groups. Findings were interpreted as supportive of the McClelland model.
