In order to develop a preliminary anxiety scale specifically for South African Indians, newly derived anxiety responses and those from existing instruments were included in a 70-item questionnaire along with a self-rating scale. Results suggest that some new items are more appropriate for Indian Ss than those from Western scales, and factor analyses confirm the multidimensionality of trait anxiety for this population. Using item and factor analytic criteria, 17 responses are selected from general tremor weakness, cognitive, somatic, and activity dimensions.
