Two graphite/polymer composites were directly coupled with mild steel and immersed in natural seawater for intervals up to three months. Ensuing crystal growth in the form of aragonite was observed on both composites. It is proposed that local changes in the environment by corrosion processes were responsible for the crystal formation.
