In two recent papers Harlow and Phoenix, [1] and [2], surveyed re sults for the chain-of-bundles model of the strength distribution of uni directional fibre composites. They also gave some exact results for small scale composites, [1], and obtained bounds for the asymptotic strength distribution of a composite in a simple case. In this note we shall give refined bounds on the asymptotic strength distribution of a composite using the same chain-of-bundles model as the one used by Harlow and Phoenix. These bounds are generalized to a more general failure model.
