The finite-difference method is applied to the plane elastic problem of stress fields around two parallel edge cracks in a tensile specimen. The theoretical approach is based on the solu tion of a biharmonic equation of the stress function. The results of two typical cases are included and the theoretical results are compared with the experimental.
