In Antipodean education, for most of the twentieth century, talk of religious education in state schools (RE), or even values education generally, was passé. But in recent decades, some of the stalemates of the past are dissolving, and there is a new willingness to discuss in the public domain subjects that were once considered off-limits—such as values, spirituality, and RE.
