Abstract
Brian Hill's perspectives on education in the specific context of Christian faith communities had celled with Allan's developing awareness for a number of years. Hence when the opportunity for doctoral studies arose in the. mid 1990s, Allan promptly requested Brian's supervision — supervision which, melding scholarly perception and insight with un in variably gentle manner, was to prove invaluable, for an apprehensive mature-age student. This personal friendship, broadened to include Brian and Allan's wider families, has continued (despite Allan's hunch that it was Brian's suggestion which led to his appointment as editor of this journal!).
