Abstract
The category of cellular plastics comprises a broad spectrum of polymer species that can be viewed against an even broader back ground of applications—actual and potential. The market is highly fluid, with few products having settled into a fully measurable and predictable position. For most of the cellular plastics numerous potential markets can be foreseen—the prospects for major success vary from barely possible to highly promising. Two factors—economics, and current and future technological developments—will bear importantly on the further commercialization of cellular plastics. Because research efforts have by no means reached a plateau, most projections, though favorable, may well be exceeded by the actual results.
