Abstract
The use of rigid urethane foams for insula tion of domestic and commercial refrigerators is described. Various techniques of filling, production lines, layout of equipment are discussed. The merits of the two main types of isocyanate (MDI or TDI) are displayed. Progress in the use of sandwich panels is re viewed. The ICI one-shot rigid foam MDI system, a positive injection process with a high-output foam dispensing unit and multi- daylight presses, is now well established. A newer technique utilizes a specially designed ICI machine for continuous lamination. The new process utilizes facing materials applic abe to continuous sheet feeding. Rigid mate rials can be used as the lower facing and semi-rigid materials may be used as either the top or the lower facing.
