The purpose of this research was to determine if the present training in
most business communication courses is providing for the needs of busi
ness. An analysis of responses to a questionnaire provided detailed findings
on the nature and means of managers' written communication. The ques
tionnaires were completed by low-, middle-, and upper-level managers in
the private sector. A comparison of their responses by level in the organi
zation provided some additional implications. These implications and some
recommendations for use are presented.
