Abstract
This article is a case study of a young elementary school principal at work The intent of the study was to articulate the principal's theory of leadership on his own terms. He was observed over a period of 3 months. In addition, his colleagues were interviewed. The leader is found to be both an instigator of change and a force for stability within a changing school system. He bases his leadership on collaborative relationships that allow others to feel empowered. His ultimate goal is to inspire all participants to be more creative and to learn in their roles. Challenges are encountered when roles or ideals of parents, teachers, and administrators conflict.
