Abstract
A new type of portable ancient sundial was discovered during excavations in Turkey in 2011, at the ancient city of Choma. Designed to function at the latitude of Alexandria, it is a small-sized instrument that still retains its fixed gnomon. In addition to a previously unseen geometric layout for an unequal-hour sundial, the hour lines are numbered from 1 to 12. Its dating is estimated to be between the second century and the beginning of Byzantine period.
