Abstract
Transcendence is about escape from this world, going beyond. It is the great escape story. Great art provides a five sense breakthrough to an alternative world, escape from the prison-house of the one to which we have been condemned by unimaginative philosophies and pragmatic politics. Having seen what lies beyond we can then construct a realistic dwelling-place for ourselves in a new century, one which, provides adequately for the complex reality of what we are.
