Newman's Approach to the Act of Faith in the Light of the Catholic Dogmatic Tradition

Abstract

The author looks at the structure and nature of the act of faith as understood by Cardinal Newman, in relation to the Catholic dogmatic tradition of the time. This issue not only traverses the whole of Christian tradition but also has a continuing and modern relevance. This is because the denial of the reasonableness of faith and the religious view of life, which Newman perceptively analyzed, continues to question the validity of faith and the worth of belief today.
