Abstract
On the basis of the original assumptions of Christian tradition regarding the relationship between humans and animals - assumptions radically undermined by modern science from Galileo down to our own day - the author outlines the moral principles governing experimentation on animals, principles which are clarified by recourse to reflections developed within the utilitarian tradition.
