Abstract
During the controversy about the Irish Church's handling of clerics accused of the sexual abuse of minors, the relationship between Canon Law and the State's criminal law became the subject of public debate. In the course of the controversy, canon 1395 was given a certain interpretation, the validity of which the author challenges.
