Abstract
In this autobiographical essay, the author characterises his own Life and theology as marked by a sustained dialogue with Newman's life and thought, which in turn deeply influenced Newman studies in post-war Germany. In addition, particular attention is given to the significance of Newman's originality for the discipline of fundamental theology.
