Abstract
In 1986, Pope John Paul II promulgated his encyclical Dominum et Vivificantem. The seeds of this teaching can be traced back to his reflections on the role of the divine Pneuma in the Church occasioned by various pastoral activities as Archbishop of Cracow. The aim of the essay is to trace Wojtyla's early pneumatological reflections, which were also developed against the background of a social setting openly hostile the main tenets of Christian faith.
