Abstract
Against the background of the historical antecedents and the law as articulated in the 1917 and 1983 Codes of Canon Law , this article examines the reasons for, and the content of, the 1995 intervention by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on the use of low-gluten hosts and non-fermented grape juice as valid matter for confecting the Eucharist.
