Abstract
[South-East Asian minority groups are becoming an increasingly visible element within the Australian social fabric, due to greater Asian immigration and the Indo chinese refugee situation. Consequently, they are becoming increasingly significant client groups, demonstrating patterns of need and seeking help which challenge many traditional assumptions about social work intervention and counselling. Counselors in Australia working with Asians and in particular with Indochinese refugees, are in the process of developing an alternative set of skills, methods and values to assist them to intervene effectively with a fairly distinctive client group].
