Abstract
There are few reports concerning the effectiveness of the media in enlisting community support for child abuse programs. This paper describes the development of a total community awareness campaign for a suburban California county and includes a discussion of the ramifications for line social workers within a cumbersome and unwieldy public agency. Various techniques to increase com munity awareness are suggested and a description of specific procedures utilized and problems encountered is given. The approach to community awareness must be multidisciplinary and the outcome is dependent upon total group support. The outcome was positive in that new programs were developed and public atten tion and concern were mobilized.
