Abstract
The article reports on the development of a new model for carrying out participatory research and is based on work done at a children’s home in South Africa. The model is a development and synthesis of participatory work and of the developmental research models and seeks to provide a step-by-step framework in four stages for the implementation of participatory research designed to develop effective social services. The model is aimed at the novice researcher-practitioner and is intended as a guide for facilitating collaborative work within social service contexts that meets the aims of generating new knowledge and developing more effective practice.
