A low-cost system is described which allows light levels to be measured to 12 bit resolution with exposure times between 5 ms and 1280 ms using a 256-element CCD line sensor. The system has the flexibility necessary to meet the widely varying demands made by applications in photometry, spectroscopy, imaging and physical optics.
