The paper describes undergraduate design, fabrication via an industrial prototyping facility, and testing, of CMOS gate arrays. The majority of design projects are initiated by industry, and serve as an ASIC product feasibility study. The technical difficulties and educational benefits of the projects will be discussed, and future developments outlined.
