A relationship is derived for the voltage of a power cable containing three different insulating materials, allowing for a safety factor in the withstand voltage of each insulator layer and assuming that the electric fields in the dielectrics do not exceed a prescribed maximum. This relationship has been used in a design project for power cable using multilayer insulation.
