An undergraduate experiment has been devised to enable the conductivity and Hall coefficient of germanium to be measured over a range of temperatures. Control of the experiment and the collection, initial reduction and display of data is managed by a desktop computer. The experiment both reinforces lecture material on fundamental conduction processes in semiconductors, and also introduces students to modern automatic measurement systems.
