Ferranti Effect with Variable Frequency

Abstract

The author analyses the behaviour of the long transmission line when the supply frequency is varied and uses the results to predict the voltage rise on open circuit (Ferranti effect). Model line tests are suggested as a useful educational experience requiring quite simple mathematics, on a topic outside the usual references.
