The instrument comprises a fundamental RC oscillator at a frequency of 256 Hz, and harmonic oscillators up to the twelfth all phase-locked to the fundamental. The output of each oscillator is variable in amplitude, and in phase through 360° using an unusual resistive phase-shifter.
