The need frequently arises in a machines laboratory for an instrument which provides analog outputs corresponding to quantities such as speed, current, load angle and power normally measured by conventional means. The article describes the principle of operation and some applications of an instrument designed to provide such outputs. These outputs have been used to drive X-Y recorders and in control systems in both the steady and the dynamic state.
