Abstract
The Learned Society Board of the Institute has recently authorised the establishment of a new Aviation Panel for a period of three years. It has been felt for a number of years that the Institute has not been sufficiently prominent in the advancement of the considerable use and application of measurement techniques and control technology which is made in aviation. Here Professor McLean — the Chairman of the new Aviation Panel — provides an insight into the nature of aviation today; indicates what is likely to happen in this important field in the next ten years; and goes on to discuss the objectives, proposed membership and activities of the Institute's new Panel.
