Abstract
Recently a new concept has been demonstrated and offered to the international standardization bodies as a solution for the physical layer in the forthcoming fieldbus standard. This solution is based on a rugged and environmentally resistant connection method — inductive coupling. Through combining high data rates and power transfer to field devices operating in hazardous areas, this concept is a major contribution to the fieldbus concept.
