Abstract
The second edition of the European Standard for Intrinsic Safety was released for public comment in early 1989 and contains several significant additions and clarifications which could have a significant effect on the design of intrinsically-safe apparatus and systems. The purpose of this article is to highlight these proposals and examine their likely effect as far as equipment designers are concerned.
