Abstract
Of all gases oxygen plays a unique part in human existence. Without it, life as we know today, could not exist. The nature and the measurement of oxygen has, therefore, always been a challenge to scientists throughout the ages.
Modern technological advances, both in industry and medicine, over the past quarter of a century, have resulted in demands for increased accuracy in oxygen measurement.
The application of oxygen analysers ranges from the measurement of the atmosphere inside an incubator containing a premature baby, to the monitoring of oxygen content in the process streams on giant chemical plants to ensure safe operation.
