Abstract

The London Section 49th Annual Dinner was held on 14th April 2016 at the Lancaster London Hotel, with over 250 guests from across the measurement and control industry attending to make it another memorable occasion. We had the pleasure of again welcoming Professor Sarah Spurgeon – Institute President – to our top table.
Our President presented the London Section Prize for an Outstanding Contribution to Instrumentation Engineering to Mr David Otterson for his leading role in the creation of the of the ‘Tech Talk’ series of basic real-world application techniques in measurement and control. His work and commitment to the Institute were also acknowledged: Institute Vice President, Member of Board of Trustees, Member of Communications Board and Member of Professional Registration Committee.
The raffle was generously supported by all guests, the proceeds going to support the work of the Institute.
As in previous years, the London section took the opportunity to honour students from sponsored universities. These students were presented awards, all of whom have outstanding achievements in their particular Measurement and Control subjects.
The Outstanding Academic Achievement Award Students and Company Sponsors were as follows:
Miss Erum Hoque City University London Hima-Sella
Mr Jieng Ye City University London Swagelok
Mr Jean-Philippe Limoi University of Greenwich Honeywell
Mr Aidan Hallett University of Reading Rockwell
Prize winners with former President, John Morley, Dr Sanowar Khan, Stewart Yang and Robert Jenner.
The formal part of the evening was wrapped by entertaining speech from Alfie Moore, a serving policeman on a sabbatical.
Many thanks to our organiser, Brian Jones, already hard at work for our 50th next year. Book early to avoid disappointment.
