Central North-West Local Section attended the Manchester University School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering PGR Poster Conference and IAG Meeting on 13 January 2016.
The day featured 54 posters from under-graduate and post-graduate students. Tom Nobes attended as a judge on behalf of the Local Section and says
The standard of all the posters was very high and there were a pleasing number of purely and genuinely measurement and control items being offered. As part of the day the judges were asked to choose a winner and 3 runner-ups. It was very difficult.
After the meeting, there was a meeting of the Industrial Advisory Group (IAG) where Manchester University canvassed the views of local industry as to future syllabus and ad-hoc training.
Central North-West Local Section promoted the benefits of membership at an exhibition of control, electrical and instrument suppliers in December. The exhibition organised by Independent Exhibitions Ltd (Companion Company) was in Warrington and aimed at the nuclear industry based around there.
Independent Exhibitions kindly provided a space for an InstMC stand. This was manned by Tom Nobes, Simon Conway and Tony Whitlow all of the local section committee. Tom Nobes says,
We spoke to over 50 people on the day and gave out flyers and other items. We now have 6 people very interested in membership and we signed-up 2 people on the day itself. Thanks to Independent Exhibitions Ltd for their support in this.
