Making Another Milestone with InstMC Accreditation for PETRONAS
Another milestone was achieved for PETRONAS Technical Capability Development (TCD) Programme when it received the accreditation from the Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC) based in the United Kingdom (UK), for SKG 14 Instrument & Control Skill Group Development programme.
Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC) UK is a leading professional qualifying body that promotes professional excellence and standing of engineers in the automation, instrumentation, control and related industries. Accreditation of programmes by InstMC signals the confidence towards the training/development programmes of employers in developing individual competence and commitment.
This accreditation covers the scope of the Accelerated Capability Development (ACD) and the Technical Professional Career Progression (TPCP) which signifies PETRONAS’ commitment towards technical talent development and put us at par with other companies with similar accreditation, such as SHELL UK Ltd (Aberdeen), SHELL Brunei, Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR) and Foster Wheeler. PETRONAS is the first organisation in Malaysia to receive the accreditation from InstMC.
The pursuit towards the accreditation came in October 2015 where external assessors from InstMC assessed and reviewed the standards of SKG14 training materials, training roadmap, Technology Inventory & Rulers (TI&R) and other related documents to ensure compliance and alignment to the standards of UK-SPEC. Interviews with the ACD and TPCP candidates have also been made as inputs for the assessment apart from observing the conduct of assessments and training delivery by our internal experts.

In the recommendation report from InstMC, the assessors complimented PETRONAS’ investment and efforts in raising the standards to produce world-class Instrument & Control Professional Engineers:
ACD and TPCP are some very thorough, comprehensive and meticulous training and competence assessment programmes primarily designed to meet identified business need but easily translatable to those competences for Chartered and Incorporated Engineer. The sheer size and quality of their support is impressive as their interest is in the future success of PETRONAS. An impressive scheme and well deserving for our recognition in the training of much needed professional Engineers.
PETRONAS has progressively been pushing for certification for the technical capability development programmes to ensure it does not only meet business requirement, but also is at par with industry standards. This accreditation is the second programme accreditation after IChemE for SKG16 Process/Operations in 2014. In 2013, ISO 9001:2008 certification was obtained for the programmes.
