Abstract

Central North-West Local Section have revived the custom of presenting an award for the Best Technical Lecture. Awarded in retrospect, the award in the lecture season 2014/2015. It goes to Paul Carrington of Yokogawa UK, for his lecture on Tuneable Diode Laser Spectroscopy. Paul (left) is shown here being presented by Tom S Nobes (Programme Secretary) at Yokogawa UK offices on 22 September during the start of the new lecture season. Tom said, ‘The new Central North-West Local Section, being a merger of the Manchester & Chester and the Merseyside Local Sections, was keen to revive some of the things we used to (rather successfully) do in the past’. One of them was an award for best technical lecture. Other awards we offer are a Lifetime Achievement Award and Student Prizes for both Manchester University and Liverpool John Moore’s University. We are keen to offer an apprenticeship-based prize in the future.
