Abstract

As the first of what will hopefully become a series of biennial conferences on the subject, Functional Safety 2014 has laid down a marker for the future. A near full house of delegates and speakers, from the United Kingdom and abroad, attended the event in early November at the Wellcome Collection Conference Centre, London. Presented by consultants, vendors and end-users, papers covered practical applications, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) compliance, competence and people in the safety cycle and so on and, with delegates often sharing or querying experiences, generated considerable debate at times.
An encouraging feature of the event was the sponsorship of it by ABB and Fluor, with further support coming from 12 companies as exhibitors.
The prevailing comment at the end of the event, from all who had participated, was that they would all be back in 2016.
Functional Safety Networking Evening
With the Institute’s President, Lord Oxburgh, KBE, as principal guest and after dinner speaker, it was a case of all hands to the crew deck – and ‘snouts in the trough’ – as participants attended the conference dinner on HMS Belfast.
We would also like to thank the Exhibitors that participated in the two day event.
