Abstract

Manchester & Chester Local Section continued its outreach to local academia in October by sponsoring two lectures. The lectures were kindly given by Ron Bell O. B. E. and Dave Green of Engineering Safety Consultants Ltd. The first lecture in the morning was at Manchester University for the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and was ‘An Overview of Functional Safety’. Thirty students attended. The same lecture was also given in the afternoon to Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) Marine and Risk Management Departments, and 15 students attended. To cap it all, Ron and Dave later presented a lecture called ‘Proof testing – When is enough, enough?’ that same evening for the local section at Yokogawa’s offices in Runcorn.
Manchester & Chester would like to thank Ron Bell, Dave Green, Professor William Heath at Manchester, Professor Christian Matthews of LJMU and Mark Halliwell at Yokogawa for their work in making all this happen.

Encouraged by this success, Manchester & Chester have secured the services of Rob Stockham at Moore Industries to present similar lectures in November on ‘Bite-sized safety systems’.
