Abstract

The Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC), West Cumbria Section, recently sponsored an event at Millom Secondary School involving 40 year 10 pupils. The STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) event organised by Sellafield Ltd and STEM Cumbria involved the pupils learning to programme LEGO robots with a custom software package to carry out a number of tasks. This resulted in the ‘dance off’ in the afternoon to see which group had grasped the concepts and worked well as a team.
At the end of the event, prizes were presented to the top three teams by David Jones, Secretary InstMC West Cumbria, Mark Halliwell of Yokogawa UK and Dick Monaghan of Lab Impex. The InstMC, West Cumbria Section, would like to thank Pauline Farrell and Corrin Nichols of Sellafield Ltd for organising the event, and also Mark and Dick who helped with the sponsorship of the event and spent time talking about instrumentation with the pupils (as well as giving away some freebies!).
