Introducing Roxspur …
A new company companion
Roxspur Measurement & Control Ltd (RM&C) is one of the United Kingdom’s largest privately owned instrumentation manufacturers with over 85% of sales produced at their modern UK manufacturing centres.
RM&C’s heritage can be traced back to a rather famous individual, Harry Brearley, the inventor of stainless steel who was born in Sheffield in 1871.
In 1908, Harry Brearley established the Amalgams Company, known today as RM&C.
RM&C is a British company, whose success is built on over a century of precision craftsmanship and serving the global industrial manufacturing community. For over 100 years, it has successfully designed, manufactured and applied measurement technologies and services to improve the performance and safety of its customers’ industrial processes.
Company history
1908: Amalgams founded by Harry Brearley, Francis Moorwood and William Dyson
1954: Amalgams purchase Tool & Die Heat Treatment Ltd
1978: Coalite purchase Furnace Instruments
1981: Anglo United purchase Coalite
1992: The Brearley Group is founded by collaboration between Amalgams and Anglo United
1994: Roxspur plc purchase The Brearley Group
1999: RM&C, formation headed by Garry Swindell, combined a number of businesses including The Brearley Group, Platon Flow metering, Sensit Pressure Transmitters and Nulectrohms level systems. RM&C returned to private ownership in 2001.
Today
The responsibility for this impressive heritage has journeyed all the way from Harry Brearley to today’s owner and Managing Director, Garry Swindell.
Commenting on this journey, Garry said, Our group headquarters are still based in Sheffield and our mission
and vision remains pretty much the same as laid out by the original
founders of the company, we strive to provide an excellent service
to our customers, delivering quality cost effective solutions in a
timely manner.
RM&C has a comprehensive range of temperature, pressure, flow and level measurement products widely proven in diverse and challenging sectors such as steel, nuclear energy, automotive, offshore exploration, medical, fire, glass, steel, aerospace and water.
Their customer base includes many blue-chip companies, for example, Rolls-Royce, Tata, Sellafield Sites and British Energy.
RM&C’s products include sensors, thermocouples, thermometers, transducers, transmitters, flowmeters and controllers. They also offer a range of associated products including pumps, displays, power supplies, data recorders, portable calibrators and thermal imaging cameras. They can also provide bespoke instrumentation solutions to meet the exacting requirements of their customers. Their modern cell-based manufacturing facilities are fully flexible for small and large batch runs, enabling us to provide short lead times even for customised products.
This in-house manufacturing and testing is backed up by their own United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)-accredited laboratory for pressure, temperature, flow and electrical parameters. They have a team of field-based engineers who can provide a full calibration, maintenance and repair service throughout the United Kingdom.
RM&C also has a measurement systems division with a dedicated team that develops and installs full system solutions. Their capability ranges from a simple process control panel to specialised analytical/environmental monitoring projects for defence/nuclear applications.
RM&C is an ISO 9001:2008 quality-approved company offering UKAS traceable calibration with British Standards/European Standards (BS/EN) ISO 17025 accredited procedures. Their certificate generation systems have also been designed to meet the strict and detailed requirements of the aerospace industry. From their regional UK offices, RM&C personnel offer a wealth of industry experience to provide unrivalled customer service and support.
RM&C made the decision to formalise its relationship with the Institute of Measurement and Control earlier this year by becoming a Companion Company. Although extremely proud of their heritage, RM&C are keen to ensure that the craftsmanship and skill acquired is retained and built upon by investing in a modern apprenticeship scheme, and it is hoped that this new generation will become future members of the Institute of Measurement and Control.
