The EC published a framework directive (96/62/EC) on ambient air quality assessment and management in 1996. This has been followed by 3 daughter directives setting limits or, in the case of ozone, targets for specific pollutants:1999/30/EC, 2000/69/EC, 2002/3/EC. A 4th daughter directive is in preparation.
