The Respiratory Care Committee of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) has developed guidelines for the use of intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB). These were published recently in Clinical Notes on Respiratory Disease, an American Thoracic Society publication. In the August 1979 issue of RESPIRATORY CARE we published a draft version of these guidelines, incorrectly described as an American Thoracic Society statement. The completed version of these guidelines, as published in the ATS Clinical Notes, is now reprinted here with the concurrence of the Chairman of the ATS Respiratory Care Committee and the Editor of Clinical Notes. It should be emphasized that these guidelines do not constitute an official statement of the ATS and do not represent official policies or recommendations.
