A study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of moisture traps in preventing or reducing autocontamination in unheated pneumatic nebulizers, with 75 effluent samples taken from nebulizers without traps and 79 samples from nebulizers with traps. When no moisture traps were employed, the contamination rate was 9.3 per cent, whereas use of moisture traps reduced the contamination rate to 1.2 per cent.
