Air entrainment oxygen masks are designed to deliver accurate oxygen concentrations and may also humidify the inhaled gases. A study of four such masks revealed that the accuracy of oxygen delivery could vary with design characteristics. At certain settings under some conditions, 100 per cent oxygen was seen to be inadvertently delivered. We suggest that oxygen concentrations delivered by this type of device be periodically measured to ensure patient safety.
